Tekni-Plex Healthcare has acquired Mexican precision extrusion manufacturer Johnson Plastic Group (JPG) for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Mexicali, Johnson Plastic has expertise in offering extrusion engineering for complex and demanding medical device applications.

The acquisition of Johnson Plastic is part of Tekni-Plex’s strategy to expand its patient care solutions platform.

JPG owner and general manager Enrique Preciado said: “We are truly excited to become part of Tekni-Plex Healthcare. We now will be able to provide even greater opportunities for our employees and a broader range of products and material science solutions for our customers.”

Johnson Plastic offers extrusion solutions in various medical device applications for interventional and therapeutic procedures.

By using advanced extrusion and machine technologies, the company designs, develops and customises high-tolerance solutions for some of the major OEM’s and healthcare companies across the world.

The acquisition will also allow Tekni-Plex Healthcare to expand its medical device capabilities, in addition to broadening the division’s global footprint by adding a presence in Mexico.

Tekni-Plex Healthcare CEO Chris Qualters said: “This acquisition makes total sense for us and improves our ability to service our customers.

“It builds upon our existing solutions capabilities and increases our geographic reach, bringing us close to our key customer base in Mexico and the Baja region. It also allows us to leverage JPG’s expertise across our entire global customer base and healthcare end markets.”

In August this year, Tekni-Plex acquired US-based container venting solutions provider M-Industries.
