Suitable for the fresh produce, protein, and ready meal sectors, the films can be used in top-seal lidding applications to form pre-made pouches and for flow wrap through FFS machines

UK-based flexible packaging supplier KM Packaging has launched a new range of sustainable lidding film solutions for the Australian market.

The new portfolio is claimed to assist clients in fulfilling their commitments to the National Packaging Targets, whose implementation is overseen by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO).

The products are divided into four categories and spread across KM’s extensive K-Peel, K-Seal, K-Foil, and K-Reseal lidding offerings.

The film solutions, REDcycle approved, are a cold peelable combination of PE and PPs. They are said to be sealable to PET, PP and pulp/fibre trays and approved for return-to-store recycling.

KM Packaging said that cold peel and weld mono PET films feature a minimum of 30% post-consumer recyclate, suitable for sealing to PET, PP, and smoothwall aluminium trays.

According to the firm, the film solutions are peeled and weld-sealed to PET and pulp/fibre trays. They are certified home compostable to Australian AS-5810 standards.

Lastly, the PET lidding film solution is suitable for tethering to rPET and aPET trays for kerbside recycling, KM said.

All of the structures, which can be utilised in top-seal lidding applications to create pre-made pouches and flow wrapping using FFS machines, are appropriate for the fresh produce, protein, and ready meal sectors.

Scheduled to be introduced by 19 November, the films can be printed or perforated depending on the requirements.

KM Australia and Europe business unit director John Shipley said: “KM offers an extensive range of specialist lidding films and flexible packaging to major and specialist food manufacturers in Australia.

“We are really excited to launch our sustainable range, designed to help our customers achieve their National Packaging Targets, whether through REDcycle, home composting, 30% PCR content, or kerbside recycling through tethering.

“Our unrivalled knowledge of the market and deep understanding of sustainability issues means we anticipate customers’ needs and consistently deliver the most suitable packaging solutions.”

KM Packaging is a REDcycle partner and a member of APCO, an organisation dedicated to attaining the 2025 National Packaging Targets, which call for using only 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging.
