Packaging solutions provider Coveris has launched a new packaging concept, Grab Box, for the food-to-go sector.

The Grab Box is a board and film hybrid solution designed to provide a enhanced packaging experience. It is supplied as a flat, pop-up box with heat sealed top flange to provide greater pack integrity.

Manufactured using sustainably sourced lined board to produce a more rigid structure, the hybrid pack format is lined using high clarity, low gauge polypropylene film incorporating improved quality anti-fog properties.

Featuring three windows for enhanced product visibility, the solution offers improved food protection and can be printed with on one or both sides with a combined total of nine colors.

Coveris said that the Grab Box development marks an evolution in the packaging of premiumised ranges in the food to go sector.

Coveris packaging development manager Adam Lunn said: “Retailers and manufacturers have asked Coveris to use lined board technology to create innovative packaging for top tier lines.

“Grab Box delivers this with fantastic on-shelf presentation and opportunities for brands and retailers to differentiate their products, combined with efficient processing.”

The new Grab Box concept was initially launched by retailer Tesco for its ‘Finest’ range of festive sandwiches in December 2016. Later, it switched to Grab Box for its ‘Finest’ food to go lines in January 2017.

Coveris, in collaboration with food manufacturers Bakkavor, Bradgate Bakery and Solway Foods, plans to launch new packaging for the food to go range by the end of this month.

Tesco packaging technical manager Dr Mark Caul said: “Tesco are delighted to have worked alongside Coveris and our sandwich suppliers, Samworth Brothers, 2 Sisters Food Group and Bakkavor, to bring to market our Finest Grab Box.”

Coveris plans to showcase its Grab Box concept, along with other new off-the-shelf foodservice ranges, at the Pro2Pac, a food and drinking packaging event scheduled to be held in UK 20-22 March 2017.
