SGD Pharma's NOVA will enable the manufacturers to use the lightweight glass packaging option to reduce their environmental impact without compromising elegance or visual appeal

Glass primary packaging maker SGD Pharma has launched a new lightweight glass bottle, NOVA, to expand its cosmetics and beauty offering.
The new primary packaging solution combines the functional and aesthetic performance of glass with the lowered carbon footprint associated with weight optimisation.
SGD Pharma’s NOVA will enable the manufacturers to use the lightweight glass packaging option to reduce their environmental impact without compromising elegance or visual appeal.
The company has designed the 200ml bottle to be lightweight and minimise greenhouse gas emissions.
The new bottle is said to decrease CO2 emissions by 20% in comparison to the standard Dorado bottle due to less raw materials usage.
NOVA has a brimful volume of 215ml and weight of just 140gm, giving the bottles a low weight-volume ratio of 0.65, according to the glass packaging firm.
SGD Pharma said that the new bottle range also has properties and safety like the Dorado model.
The range also incorporates the Narrow Neck Press and Blow (NNPB) forming technology, which SDG Pharma has previously employed in its Clareo line of pharmaceutical vials.
The technology combines a reduced weight with optimised glass distribution for increased mechanical resistance, thereby improving the bottles against pressures encountered during transportation and distribution.

NOVA bottles were unveiled at Cosmoprof Asia in Hong Kong. They were developed using SGD Pharma’s expertise in the production of pharma-grade glass packaging.
