The LEGO Group has unveiled plans to expand its factory in Nyíregyháza, Hungary to increase production capacity to cater to the demand for LEGO play experiences.

The expansion project for the LEGO factory in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, will encompass the construction of additional packaging modules, warehousing spaces, and various other facilities.

The expansion will result in an increase of 30,000m2 in built-up area at the site and a nearly 30% boost in packaging capacity.

The LEGO Group COO Carsten Rasmussen said: “The LEGO Group has a strong history of operations in Nyíregyháza, celebrating 15 years of production this year.

“This investment is one of several strategic expansions in our supply chain network, setting us up for long-term growth so we may continue to delight more children and fans around the world.”

The Nyíregyháza factory currently has a workforce of 3,300 employees, and an additional 300 team members are anticipated to be hired as part of the expansion efforts. The expansion project is set to commence this year and is slated for completion in 2025.

LEGO Group senior vice president and Nyíregyháza factory general manager Chresten Bruun said: “Nyíregyháza is a world-class manufacturing facility with a highly skilled and motivated workforce. I am thrilled that through our investments, we can bring additional production volume and activity in the next couple of years.”

The LEGO Group said that the factory expansions in Nyíregyháza align with the company’s sustainability goals, including its commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 37% by 2032.

The Nyíregyháza factory is pivotal in the LEGO Group’s manufacturing operations. It is one of three factories that undertake the complete production and packaging process of LEGO products. This includes the manufacturing of LEGO elements through moulding, element processing, decoration, and packaging of LEGO sets into boxes.
