HumidifGroup USA, a luxury packaging designer for the cigar industry, has introduced a new Smart Packaging technology for cigar boxes or accessories.

Ferio Tego Cigar, the latest venture of Michael Herklots and Brandon Scott, is said to be the first brand to use the company’s Smart Packaging technology.

By simply tapping a phone, the end-user can derive information, slick videos, and education through Smart Packaging technology.

The new Smart Packaging technology embeds a near-field communication (NFC) chip within the cigar box or cigar accessory, which is designed for customers.

Customers can access a secure authentication system and open a wide channel for experience and interaction with a simple tap of a smartphone.

The features offered by the new Smart Packaging technology consist of VR, AR, pairing notes and tap to reorder.

Smart Packaging technology also holds the potential to turn the product into an advanced digital platform, in addition to enabling logistics optimisation.

Ferio Tego Cigars principal Michael Herklots said: “Smart Packaging by HumidifGroup allows us to control our messaging and ensure that we are communicating clearly to our audience. Packaging is an important part of the Ferio Tego Experience.

“Smart packaging technology allows collectors to receive real-time information and communication about Ferio Tego and our products. Our retail partners work tirelessly to run their businesses, a challenge made only greater these last 18 months.

“Smart packaging allows us to assist them, keeping the most helpful details and stories of Ferio Tego right on the product itself, delivered straight to a smartphone.”
