Rigid and plastic packaging provider Greiner Packaging has designed sustainable cardboard-plastic tubs for use in combination with Henkel’s new Somat Excellence 4in1 dishwasher caps.

The sustainable cardboard-plastic tub is said to consist of 50% postconsumer recycled polypropylene (PP) from end consumer households.

Henkel international dishwashing packaging development senior manager Carsten Bertram said: “The new packaging for the Somat Excellence 4in1 dishwasher caps stands out not only thanks to its sustainable properties and premium shelf appeal but also because of its high degree of technical functionality.”

With a patented tear-off system, the cardboard wrap and the plastic tub can be easily separated to add to their respective recycling loops.

The cardboard wrap contains almost 100% recycled material. The two-stage process has been used by Greiner for the plastic tub.

The inside of the plastic tub is produced using white virgin material, while the packaging’s outer coating is produced using 50% r-PP obtained from end consumer households.

Greiner Packaging also provides the lids for Henkel’s new packaging designed for Somat Excellence 4in1 caps. The special concept features a sealing film, which is built into the lid to offer a better seal.

Greiner Packaging international project manager Andreas Auinger said: “Our longstanding customer Henkel was looking for an innovative, end-to-end packaging solution for the new Somat Excellence 4in1 caps, which are dishwasher detergent capsules containing both powder and three solid gel chambers.

“An effective seal to prevent moisture from getting into the packaging was especially important, and Greiner Packaging delivered an ideal solution by providing both the tub and lid.”

In March this year, Greiner Packaging launched new sustainable bottles, which are manufactured using 100% r-PET, for sanitisers.
