Steel packaging solutions provider Ball Metalpack has installed a new two-piece food can production line at its Milwaukee manufacturing facility in Wisconsin, US.

The new high-speed and two-piece line has commenced operations to produce millions of food cans per annum. It will enable the company to meet increasing demand from customers in the food and nutrition industries.

Ball Metalpack’s second high-speed two-piece production line at the Milwaukee facility is expected to provide a quicker ramp-up time and a lower total cost structure.

At present, Ball Metalpack operates four high-speed two-piece can lines across its eight North American plants.

Ball Metalpack CEO Jim Peterson said: “We’re excited to launch our newest two-piece food can line, increasing our capacity and signalling our commitment to grow with our customers’ needs.

“We continue to see increased demand for our food cans and this large investment in our manufacturing capacity is the direct result of several long-term contracts with key customers.”

The expanded operations will allow the company to add up to 50 additional employees. It already employs 120 people at the Milwaukee plant.

Ball Metalpack stated that it invests up to $10m per annum with local suppliers for its two Wisconsin facilities.

In January this year, the firm announced the installation of a new high-speed aerosol can line at its DeForest can manufacturing plant in Wisconsin.

Based in Broomfield, Colorado, Ball Metalpack provides steel cans for food and household products in North America.
