Data visualization technologies provider AstroNova has unveiled a new food-safe flexible packaging printing solution, which is designed to work with TrojanLabel presses.

The new solution allows AstroNova printers to digitally print food friendly, heat sealable, flexible packaging materials.
The new digital and narrow-format solution provides flexibility for use in either a standalone printing mode or in-line with standard packaging equipment for complete print and pack process.
According to the company, the combination of ink and lamination provides a food friendly packaging solution, which enables users to seal in both horizontal and vertical form fill and seal machines low temperatures for high speed sealing.
The use of digital technology will allow flexible packaging printers to produce short- to mid-level packaging runs on demand.
AstroNova’s new solution enables to print barcodes and variable data with precise registration, which is expected from TrojanLabel presses.
The new printing solution can be used in several product packaging applications, helping to produce exact number of custom printed packages required.
AstroNova has developed ultra-thin and PET film to be more responsive with its water-based inkjet inks.
The inner transparent sealing layer of the film will protect food products from coming into contact with the outer layer.
In addition, the water-based inks used are food friendly, odorless and free of reactive chemistries and are in line with various US, European and Japanese standards.
The company is showcasing the new solution at this year’s Pack Expo International and the Healthcare Packaging Expo, which is being held from 14 to 17 October in Chicago, Illinois.
