Based in Canton, Royal Docks Brewing has invested in WaveGrip’s G1 multi-packing applicator to pack a full range of can sizes with minimal downtime.

Royal Docks, which was earlier partnered with a canning company, shifted to its own canning line in 2017.

The G1 multi-packing applicator provides speeds of up to 100 cans-per-minute (cpm), while Royal Dock’s G1 applicator is currently operating at over 50cpm to fit with the remaining canning line and due to restrictions on manpower.

Royal Docks brewmaster Dave Sutula said: “Thanks to our PS Angelus Filler, we could be running at 60cpm – well within the 100cpm limit of the G1. Currently WaveGrip is handling our requirements so smoothly at 52, that I have no doubt it could handle up to 60.”

“We’re on track to be a 4200-barrel brewery in the next few months and thanks to the G1 and our new canning line, we think 80% of our output will be packaged products.”

Royal Docks is said to be one of the first breweries to use the WaveGrip Colours range. It is using the fury red carrier to complement their own brewery branding.

WaveGrip is claimed to be lightest carrier on the market and weighs less than 4g for a standard six-pack ring carrier.

WaveGrip carriers are completely recyclable and meet present US packaging regulations by being photodegradable.

WaveGrip managing director Aaron McIvor said: We designed this machine to be suited for a wide range of business sizes and I’m particularly happy we can keep up with the current demand of Royal Docks and with the potential for more packaging output when they choose.”

In June this year, Florida-based Due South Brewing purchased WaveGrip’s G1 multi-packing applicator to pack its range of canned craft beer.

Due South invested in the WaveGrip’s G1 multi-packing applicator to improve the multi-packing of its 16oz cans in both 4 and 6-pack configurations, helping to meet the increasing demand from customers for its beers.
