French glass containers producer Verallia has inked a binding agreement with Sun European Partners’ affiliate to acquire UK-based premium glass bottle manufacturer Allied Glass for £315m.

Under the deal, which is expected to be completed by mid-November, Verallia will acquire 100% of the capital of Allied Glass in cash.

The acquisition will enable Verallia to strengthen its position in premium glass bottles for the alcohol sector and expand its Northern European production base with a presence in the UK.

With this deal, Allied’s expertise in premium glass bottles, specifically in the Scotch Whisky and Gin sectors, and from its established position in the industry will help Verallia.

Allied Glass will take advantage of Verallia’s expertise in glass containers for the food and beverage sector.

Verallia CEO Patrice Lucas said: “This acquisition of Allied Glass is fully in line with our strategy which is to accelerate our investments in key markets while leveraging our industrial, technological and management expertise to generate synergies.

“I am convinced that Verallia and Allied Glass have an outstanding fit as we share a common vision and values.”

With four furnaces in West Yorkshire, over 600 people, and its corporate office in Leeds, Allied Glass serves the premium glass packaging sector in the UK, where it generates over 95% of its revenues.

The firm designs, develops and manufactures glass packaging with a focus on sustainability, based on an ESG policy with clear targets across all areas and a market-leading use of cullet across all products.

These products benefit from extra-white, bespoke colour and decoration capability, Verallia said.

Based on a collaborative approach to product development, Allied Glass has partnerships with a diverse customer base that includes blue chip, established, and emerging brands.

Allied Glass CEO Alan Henderson said: “Integrating Allied into an international Group, one of the main world leaders in glass manufacturing for food and beverage, is a thrilling challenge for Allied. Based on our respective strengths, the two companies will benefit from strong synergies.”
