Packaging and paper company Mondi has partnered with pallet-wrapping machinery maker Robopac to offer a paper stretch wrapping solution for pallet storage and transportation.

The seamless and more sustainable solution was developed using Robopac’s expertise in wrapping machines and Mondi’s experience in packaging and paper.

Robopac’s new paper wrapping machine will now use Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap and replace unnecessary plastic use.

According to Mondi, the paper is 100% kraft paper and provides superior protection for palletised items using its high strength, puncture resistance, and strain absorption.

It is made from renewable, ethically sourced materials and contains no plastic or coating, making it recyclable in Europe’s existing waste streams.

Mondi Flexible Packaging StretchWrap product manager Bartosz Babicz said: “We highly value the collaboration on eye-level with Robopac including a great exchange of expert knowledge, having similar core values within our companies.

“Close collaboration with our partners is key to transition to sustainable packaging solutions, therefore working with Robopac is truly driving our progress towards a circular economy and provides our customers a combination of state-of-the-art machinery with best quality wrapping paper.”

Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap will be used on Robopac’s both semi-automated and fully automated machines to replace the conventional standard for pallet wrapping.

According to an impartial life cycle assessment (LCA), Advantage StretchWrap outperformed competing products in several environmental impact categories, including climate change, the paper and packaging firm claimed.

Every hour, the semi-automatic machine can use a 25kg spool of Advantage StretchWrap to wrap up to 40 pallets, whereas the fully automated wrapping machine can wrap up to 750 pallets on a single reel, or up to 60 pallets each hour.

Robopac product manager Filiberto Felici said: Our biggest challenge was to adapt the paper material to the packaging operations, while ensuring maximum stabilisation of the customer’s products during transportation with minimum use of resources.

“Using our own unique Cube Technology, we achieve maximum load stabilisation and are very satisfied with the effectiveness of our machines’ performances in conjunction with Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap.”
