UK-based packaging firm Mondi has announced the expansion of its Performance Lab services to meet the increasing demands of e-commerce customers.

The International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) and Amazon Packaging Support and Supplier Network (APASS) certified Performance Lab will now support the e-commerce packaging.

Located in České Budějovice, Czechia, Mondi’s Performance Lab can now also test converted solutions like corrugated boxes and MailerBAGs.

The Mondi Performance Lab also complements the company’s line of e-commerce packaging services, from raw materials to solutions that have been converted.

According to the packaging firm, the lab has advanced equipment that simulates the typical effects of packed items at each phase of the supply chain.

Mondi Group eCommerce director Nedim Nisic said: “Our certified Performance Lab is designed to test the quality and resilience of e-commerce packaging under realistic conditions.

“Our testing environment simulates common circumstances on packed goods in each step of its journey, providing a data-based evaluation to identify potential packaging deficits or weak points in the design.”

The laboratory is also the preferred testing partner for Amazon’s Tier 1-3 compliant packaging, including FFP – Frustration-Free Packaging, SIOC – Ships in Own Container, and PFP – Amazon Prep-Free Packaging.

Additionally, Mondi’s lab provides services like clamp, vibration, drop, and compression tests, certifications, and test reports for various ISTA standards.

The packaging firm’s e-commerce services and its full-material portfolio supply affordable, efficient, and effective e-commerce packaging solutions and the base material to establish new standards in the European market.

The lab will provide expertise in developing packaging that complies with relevant regulations, certification programmes and sustainability requirements.

Mondi ISTA Lab Czech leader Javier Prieto said: “With increasing emphasis on sustainability and material optimisation, businesses need a reliable partner to help navigate the challenges of packaging design, testing and certification.”

Recently, the packaging firm unveiled its plans to acquire the Hinton Pulp mill in Alberta, Canada from West Fraser Timber for $5m.
