Sustainable packaging and paper firm Mondi has added new slitting and rewinding machines into operation at its paper mill in Ružomberok, Slovakia.
The latest upgrade is expected to expand Mondi’s professional printing and converting papers portfolio from its Slovak mill.
According to Mondi, the units allow for an extended capacity in narrow reels and complement its portfolio offering.

Mondi uncoated fine paper marketing and sales director Bernhard Cantzler said: “We want to give our customers supply security for their paper needs in folio and various reel widths and for this we needed to extend our narrow reel capacity.”
Mondi SCP is an integrated pulp and paper plant in Slovakia that satisfies stringent sustainability standards and offers a broad range of paper products.
Every uncoated fine paper brand made on the site is Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Bronze level.
This accreditation guarantees that all items that bear it are responsibly created, safe, and environmentally friendly, regardless of their level, the packaging and paper firm said.
Additionally, the papers are EU Ecolabel certified and have a chain of custody certification that satisfies PEFC and/or FSC requirements, depending on the product.
Cantzler added: “We work together with our suppliers, customers and partners to get one step closer to our common goal of a true, fully circular economy.
“To achieve this, we invest in climate-efficient production assets and processes, responsibly source 100% of our wood and work with independent certification bodies to confirm our standards and stringent European regulations.”
Mondi SCP in Ružomberok has a production capacity of 560,000 tonnes of uncoated fine paper, 300,000 tonnes of containerboard, 66,000 tonnes of kraft paper, and 100,000 tonnes of market pulp.
