The Isle of Wight distillery has said that its new Mermaid Gin bottle, which uses 100% plastic-free materials, is now available to purchase.

The new glass bottle for the Mermaid Gin is result of a redesign project carried out for a year by Isle of Wight Distillery owners Xavier Baker and Conrad Gauntlett.
The re-designed glass bottle features scales sculpted around the bottle swirling downwards to resemble the tail of the mythical sea creature.
The company has created the new environmental friendly bottle using 100% plastic-free materials, exclusively from sustainable, recyclable materials. The new bottle is 100% recyclable and is decorated with biodegradable paint, featuring an all-natural cork with a wooden top and a paper seal.
In addition, the company is planning to pilot a refill scheme at the distillery, to enable the island customers to have bottles refilled on site, to benefit the customers.
The Mermaid Bar at The Wishing Well co-director and owner Conrad Gauntlett said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Islanders and Island businesses for all the support they have shown us over the years. The warm response we have had to our spirits (especially Mermaid Gin) has been really over-whelming and we hope our customers will welcome this development.”
The Mermaid Bar co-director Xavier Baker said: “We worked hard to create a brand-new bespoke Mermaid bottle, trying to capture the essence of our beautiful Island by representing the sea, mermaids and our marine environment – with sustainability a key focus. This is a very exciting time for us as Mermaid Gin gains recognition on the mainland and overseas. We hope our Island customers will be as proud and excited by the new bottle as we are.”
The company claims that though the bottle design has changed, the Mermaid Gin is still crafted using the same distinct recipe.
Furthermore, Mermaid is a small batch gin hand-crafted, distilled and bottled at the Isle of Wight Distillery using ten ethically sourced botanicals, including rock samphire foraged from Island cliffs, Boadicea hops from Ventnor Botanic Garden and locally grown elderflower.
