McCormick manufactures, markets and distributes spices, seasoning mixes, condiments and other flavorful products to the entire food industry, retail outlets, food manufacturers and foodservice businesses.

The company’s latest move is part of sustainability goals it set in October 2017. McCormick said it will expand focus on reducing its CO2 impact with additional increase of recycled content in its packaging and developing packaging design innovations that further reduce plastic use.

The company, which is planning to reduce its packaging carbon footprint by 25% by 2025, said it will continue its work on removing single-use plastic with the adoption of renewable materials and composting.

McCormick is also looking at opportunities to join pre-competitive partnerships advancing the shift towards a circular economy.

McCormick chairman, president and CEO Lawrence Kurzius said the company remains focused on the sustainability of its products and aims to be part of the solution that safeguards the long-term vitality of the planet we share.

“This new announcement is an important extension of our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with our packaging carbon footprint.

“Our new packaging commitment represents just one of the many ways McCormick is working to embed sustainability through everything we do.”

Earlier this month, McCormick opened its new global headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

The headquarters brings together 1,000 employees previously located across four different office buildings.

McCormick’s Purpose-led Performance (PLP) Report includes the company’s 2025 goals intended at working to enhance the health and well-being of all people, building resilience in communities across the world and positively impacting the environment.

As part of the commitments, the company plans to source 100% of branded iconic ingredients sustainably, reduce its environmental impact by lowering its carbon footprint, reducing water use, reducing solid waste and developing sustainable packaging innovations.

The company’s Purpose-led Performance agenda is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
