Celestial Seasonings, a part of Hain Celestial Group’s family of brands, has unveiled plans to eliminate plastic overwrap from its tea boxes to reduce its environmental impact.

The global speciality tea company will remove the plastic overwrap from over 130 tea types to improve the sustainability of its packaging.

According to Celestial Seasonings, the move will eradicate up to 165,000 pounds of plastic waste from landfills in 2024 alone. The quantity is equivalent to around 26,000km of plastic.

The initiative also supports Hain Celestial’s progress towards its sustainable packaging goals. This includes removing excess packaging materials and enhancing the recyclability of its packaging globally.

Currently, the teas of the herbal tea brand come with unique stringless and tagless pillow tea bags in a recyclable box. This saves around 3.5 million pounds of waste from landfills annually.

Celestial Seasonings marketing director Emily Rosen said: “We are thrilled to announce this exciting step towards reducing our environmental footprint.

“While we are removing the plastic overwrap from our boxes, we’re still delivering the same great taste that people expect when they enjoy our teas. It’s just one more way we’re providing magic in your mug.”

Celestial Seasonings currently has over 90 tea varieties, serves 1.6 billion cups of tea every year, and is marketed on six continents.

Its parent company, Hain Celestial Group, has products in beverages, snacks, baby/kids, meal preparation, and personal care sector. These products are marketed in over 75 countries.
