Clean technology company Loop Industries and beauty and wellness brand L’OCCITANE en Provence have jointly launched a new bottle made with 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin.

Made for L’OCCITANE’s Almond Shower Oil, the bottle was created through Loop’s technology in its upgraded production facility in Terrebonne Quebec, Canada.

Under the partnership, Loop Industries executed a pilot project where the Almond Shower Oil bottle (excluding cap and label) was produced using 100% recycled Loop PET resin on L’OCCITANE production lines.

The move represents a landmark in their partnership and will help them to incorporate Loop’s technology across other products in the brand’s assortment.

As part of the collaboration, Loop’s logo is prominently displayed on the front of the package, and more information about the technology is provided on the rear label.

The central positioning and visibility of the Loop logo on the packaging emphasises the bottle’s capacity to circulate endlessly in the economy without losing any quality, Loop said.

The inclusion of Loop branding on the packaging enables the brand to make a strong statement about sustainability and raises awareness of the product’s recyclable potential, supporting Loop’s aim to advance the circular economy for plastics.

L’OCCITANE en Provence Packaging R&D director David Bayard said: “L’OCCITANE en Provence is very conscious of the importance of eco-design and sustainable packaging.

“We have been launching eco-refill products, in-store collections and recycling services and bottles made out of 100% recycled plastic for more than 13 years and are continuing to progress on this.

“We are proud to partner with Loop Industries, whose innovative technology will help us in achieving our target of 100% sustainable PET plastic in all our bottles by 2025.

“The innovative technology they provide is a game-changer that can help us play a part in addressing the growing global concern over plastic pollution.”

Loop is now supplying top consumer brand firms with 100% recycled virgin-quality PET resin that is suited for polyester fibre usage and food-grade packaging through its production plant in Terrebonne, Quebec.

The company along with its strategic partners SUEZ and SK Geo Centric plans to market Loop’s technology in Europe through its planned Infinite Loop France facility.
