Consumer packaging company Graphic Packaging International has unveiled its new range of sustainable sushi packaging in Europe.

The new sushi packaging is said to be an alternative to traditional plastic packaging for customers who operate sushi kiosks in retail shops, or sushi restaurants that specialise in takeaway and delivery.

According to Graphic Packaging, the latest range is flexible with many customised options to satisfy the consumer’s demand in terms of plastic content and pack structure.

The portfolio has plastic lamination-free packs, minimal-plastic options (less than 5% plastic) and plastic-free options that comply with the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) of the European Union (EU).

The company said the sushi packaging has clear window material that enables a glimpse of the food inside and maintains the pack’s freshness.

It is made with cellulose material, which is recyclable in domestic paper waste streams and is certified as home and industrially compostable. This ensures that all sushi pack options are recyclable at home by consumers.

Graphic Packaging foodservice global sales director Yoann Bouvet said: “The launch of our sushi range, tailor-made to meet the needs of our customers in the sushi segment, is just our latest example of that commitment.

“As the sushi industry continues to grow throughout Europe and the rest of the world, suppliers and retailers need the next-generation sustainable packaging solutions that consumers expect, and that lawmakers demand.”

Available in a range of one- and two-piece constructions, the packaging range comes in different sizes, including 190x140mm, 220x90mm and 140x80mm.

The packaging firm said that each pack intends to provide the maximum window space for the best possible view of the food inside.

The design of the packs ensures that they can be easily stacked at a counter or kiosk without losing any performance.

The packaging solution provides flexibility in logistics so that they can be shipped flat or shaped and nested for easy filling and storage.

Additionally, each pack has been created to provide more opportunities for high-impact branding on the interior and outside.
