Consumer packaging firm Graphic Packaging International has unveiled its plans to shift its Bristol, UK beverage packaging manufacturing operations to a new nearby facility.

The new 255,000-square-foot factory is twice as big as its current facility in the Fishponds area and will help the company to meet the growing demand for fibre-based packaging.

According to the firm, the enhanced and increased production capabilities of the new site will make it one of the biggest and most technologically advanced sheet-fed folding carton facilities in Europe.

It will also include a centre for innovation to improve the company’s capacity for innovation and development.

The new facility is expected to become fully operational in Q4 2023.

The fibre-based consumer packaging firm will invite customers to view the work progress of the new facility at various stages of completion.

Graphic Packaging EMEA beverage general manager Martin Sheppard said: “This key investment in our Bristol operation makes for exciting news for our customers and employees.

“It reinforces our commitment to the UK and European beverage packaging markets for decades to come.

“It has been an exceptional few years for our Bristol site, and we look forward to making an even greater impact on our local economy in 2023 with the relocation of our facility to a significantly larger site – a move that will provide many new jobs.

“The boost to capacity means the future is very bright indeed for our Bristol operations.”

At the Bristol location, many of Graphic Packaging’s important innovations were created, such as the KeelClip. It is a fibre-based beverage multipack solution that has been adopted by some of the top beverage companies in the world.

Graphic Packaging UK beverage sales director Glyn Champion said: “When the move to the new site is complete, the increased capacity and capability will enable us to offer more sustainable packaging innovations for our customers.

“We’re proud to further accelerate our commitment to brands around the world as an innovative and trusted supplier.”
