Packaging solutions provider Berry Global is set to open its new International Centre of Excellence and Circular Innovation Hub in Barcelona, Spain.

Expected to start in the third quarter of 2023, the new centre will use Berry’s global capabilities, sustainability leadership, and innovation expertise.

The new, centrally located centre of excellence is intended to provide a new generation of circular products and research and development experts to international customers and partners.

According to Berry Global, the centre will develop a collaborative space for different product designs as per the customers’ sustainability targets.

It will also generate new work opportunities and aid in Berry’s global diversity and inclusion strategy by employing people from across Barcelona.

Berry Consumer Packaging International president Jean-Marc Galvez said: “The ability to access innovative, sustainable packaging solutions is more important than ever as our customers across the globe strive to shift to a circular, net-zero economy.

“By creating a focused, educational, and collaborative space to push the limits of circular innovation, our new centre in one of the most dynamic regions across Europe in Catalonia, Spain will help customers meet their ambitious sustainability goals while expanding Berry’s talented and diverse workforce.”

The new centre is expected to aid the development of Bmore Circular Solutions, which drives circularity by boosting the use of recycled content, lowering waste, and improving recyclability.

Additionally, it will facilitate new project work to support circularity with customer collaborations.

The new centre features an interactive learning space to see the company’s latest sustainable products and find growth in material science, manufacturing, and design for reuse and recyclability, the packaging firm said.

The International Centre of Excellence and Circular Innovation Hub in Barcelona will employ over 50 people with plans to increase the number in the future as per business needs and customer collaboration.

Berry’s Centre will also act as a hub for international collaboration due to its proximity to Barcelona’s international airport, a preferred travel location for Berry’s European customers.
