Packaging solutions and recycling specialist Alpla has agreed to acquire packaging manufacturer Wolf Plastics Group to expand its presence in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

Both parties have not disclosed the value of the deal.

Established in 1973, Wolf Plastics has expertise in the manufacturing of plastic buckets and canisters and bottles for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as international customers in the construction, chemical and food industries.

The company’s product range consists of up to 400 products.

Alpla regional manager CEE Rainer Widmar said: “Sustainability is becoming more and more important in the market segments covered by Wolf Plastics too. This is precisely where we at ALPLA can apply our expertise and our market position.”

Based in Kammern of Austria, Wolf Plastics operates three production facilities in Austria, Hungary and Romania.

The company employs 210 people at its three sites located in Kammern, Fertőszentmiklós and Bucharest.

Alpla CEO Philipp Lehner said: “Wolf Plastics has decades of experience in product areas in which we want to increase our representation in order to expand our portfolio and grow in Central and South-Eastern Europe.”

The deal, which is currently under examination by Austrian and Romanian competition authorities, is subject to the legal and regulatory approval of the relevant competition authorities.

In July this year, Alpla acquired South Africa-based Verigreen Packaging, which has expertise in the manufacturing of bottles and canisters for lubricants such as engine oils.

Alpla is engaged in the manufacturing of packaging systems, bottles, caps and injection-moulded parts for a wide range of industries.
