The partnership is intended to launch a first-of-its-kind flexible stand-up pouch using more than 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content suitable for food packaging across the package.

The stand-up pouch will be developed by combining the Child-Guard slider technology from Fresh-Lock with the AccredoFlex line of recycled content films.

According to Accredo, the combination will result in more recycled content in both the film and the zipper closure, extending the existing standard of food packaging with recycled content.

The partnership provides a child-resistant track with a recyclable child-safe closure and at least 25% PCR material while maintaining dependable protection.

API Group and Accredo Packaging marketing and sustainability VP Jonathan Quinn said: “Collaboration is crucial in driving the circular economy forward, so we are thrilled to join forces with the Fresh-Lock team at Presto to introduce this flexible stand-up pouch.

“The future of the circular economy hinges on incorporating recycled content and being able to do so across all consumer packaged goods markets.”

Fresh-Lock provides press-to-close zipper and track & slider reclosable solutions for flexible packaging.

The functional advantages of the company’s closures help increase consumer loyalty and brand differentiation, Accredo Packaging said.

Fresh-Lock team provides specialised packaging equipment for track and slider applications that operate quickly and effectively.

The firm’s portfolio includes the Fresh-Lock 8000 range of sustainable closures made for flexible packaging and the child-resistant Child-Guard slider.

The Fresh-Lock brand of products is designed and produced by Presto Products, a division of Reynolds Consumer Products.

Fresh-Lock market development senior manager Todd Meussling said: “The PCR component is critical if true circularity in packaging is going to work.

“Flexible packaging continues to make great strides in sustainability beyond just the source reduction benefits from rigids.

“We’re seeing the shift from multi-material structures to mono-material options that can be recycled or composted.”
