Visy and Water.IO have partnered to bring smart packaging solutions to the Australia and New Zealand Region.

Under the partnership, Visy will use Water.IO’s intelligent packaging options to its customers that include brands and manufacturers in the beverage, pharmaceutical and food industries along with other industries in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Water.IO uses sensors, algorithms, cloud servers and mobile apps to deliver an Internet of Things platform for consumer packaged brands and pharmaceutical firms.

The company's Smart Cap technology is claimed to convert any bottle into a smart bottle which will provide consumers with key personal reminders and alerts about taking medications or hydrate.

Water.IO’s technology can be beneficial for brands and manufacturers as well, as they can now access consumer data and perform real-time analytics.

Visy Insights and Innovation general manager Richard Macchiesi said: “As we enter a new era of smart packaging, companies must partner together to solve problems and move the market forward. This is why we’re working with Water.IO – we have found an exciting mature technology and dedicated team to partner with.

“This new relationship represents our belief that the future of packaging has the potential to improve customer engagement, personalize products, supply data to brand owners, maintain the authenticity and integrity of food and pharma products, and improve convenience for consumers.”

Water.IO co-founder and executive vice president Yoav Hoshen said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Visy. Together, we look forward to setting a new standard for what’s possible through packaging. As the Internet of Things raises consumers’ expectations for products that anticipate their every need, Water.IO is leading the charge on doing this for consumer goods.

“For the first time, brands can gain critical first hand insights on how their customers use their products and who they are. Through our technology expertise and Visy’s extensive production capabilities and global reach, we are excited about bringing the ‘smart packaging’ revolution – and the opportunity – to more and more markets worldwide.”
