UPM Specialty Papers has launched heat sealable and recyclable UPM Confidio and UPM Confidio Pro barrier papers for the dry and frozen foods industry.

According to the firm, the new sustainable and recyclable packaging papers offer moisture and grease resistance.

The latest offering will expand UPM’s broad product line of heat sealable goods and enables a quicker conversion procedure and an accelerated time-to-market.

UPM Confidio and UPM Confidio Pro are made of renewable fibres and are meant to be recycled in conventional fibre recycling systems.

Additionally, UPM Confidio Pro delivers the best print quality across the board, producing richer prints with crisper, more vibrant colours.

It is suitable for a variety of end uses because it combines heat sealability, moisture resistance, grease resistance, and mineral oil barrier, said the company.

UPM Specialty Papers EMEA sales head Tommi Heinonen said: “Our goal is to replace conventional fossil-based packaging and increase the share of renewable packaging solutions.

“With features supporting both primary and secondary packaging, UPM Confidio and UPM Confidio Pro are recyclable, cost-effective and safe to use.

“The products offer excellent convertability and enable a visual look which makes brands stand out on the shelf. By combining all these elements, the UPM Confidio line of exciting packaging products is almost too good to be true.”

The firm said the products are suited for primary and secondary packaging as they are safe for direct food contact and comply with FDA and BfR regulations.

UPM Confidio and UPM Confidio Pro were developed based on the inputs from UPM Specialty Papers’ partners.

UPM Specialty Papers has increased its collaboration with other parties during the product development process, including prominent Finnish food and pastry manufacturer Fazer.

The company anticipates extending its market reach to new markets and end-uses with the inclusion of these two new products.
