Materials science solutions provider TekniPlex Consumer Products has launched a new range of 100% PET processor trays.
The tray is designed to offer premium looks and tackle the common packaging challenges prevalent in the poultry industry, especially in higher-end products like labelled organic, non-GMO or sustainably sourced items.
According to the firm, the new TekniPlex trays are composed entirely of PET and contain up to 50% post-industrial recycled content to make them 100% recyclable.
TekniPlex said that the trays are shatter-resistant even in harsh, cold environments – reducing breakage, product loss, leaks, and the risk of safety recalls.
During a year-long production campaign with a poultry processor, the tray demonstrated no signs of cracking or breakage throughout the supply chain.
Based on the firm’s patented Hidden Rim Technology, the presence of overwrap film protects the tray from tearing and creates freight and shipping efficiencies.
TekniPlex vice president and general manager Jay Arnold said: “We are continuing to expand our overall material and product offerings to include more eco-minded solutions as our customers and their commitment to sustainability continue to drive industry-wide change.

PET processor trays are simple to use because they are a drop-in replacement for foam polystyrene trays. There is no need to upgrade existing equipment or change production line, said TekniPlex.
The new PET processor trays come in a variety of hues, including transparent (natural), translucent, and opaque.
The company is planning to launch additional trays in different sizes and colours to satisfy consumer demands in the future.
