Packaging solutions provider TekniPlex Consumer Products has completed the acquisition of Mexico-based moulded fibre packaging provider Empaques Moldeados de America Tecnologias (EMATEC).

EMATEC supplies sustainable moulded cellulose pulp packaging solutions for eggs, produce, food service, and other fresh food items.

The firm also offers a range of post-consumer recycled PET plastic containers such as egg cartons, clamshells, and others.

The acquisition will help TekniPlex to continue its expansion in moulded fibre and strengthen its position as a materials-diverse solution provider for the fresh foods industry.

Overall, TekniPlex Consumer Products is expanding the variety of materials it uses, offering fresh food producers a wide selection of packing and packaging options to help them stand out in supermarkets.

TekniPlex Consumer Products CEO Eldon Schaffer said: “EMATEC bolsters our commitment to leadership in the fresh foods and foodservice categories, reinforcing our strategy to focus on helping our customers win in the perimeter of the store.

“EMATEC has a solid reputation for developing and commercializing packaging solutions for the segments it serves, and we’re proud to create a powerful fibre solution leveraging the combined strengths of Keyes, Fibro, EMATEC, and TekniPlex.”

TekniPlex’s presence in the Americas is strengthened by EMATEC’s six facilities in Mexico, which complement the company’s current locations in Mexico, North America, and Colombia and offer more manufacturing capacity and diversification options.

The acquisition is the latest move by TekniPlex in the consumer goods sector, particularly in the fresh food and food service solutions sector.

The firm seeks to accelerate its growth based on its “Sustainability And” strategy, which combines sustainable materials science solutions with clients’ business requirements.

Following the acquisitions of Keyes and Fibro, the acquisition of EMATEC will improve TekniPlex’s substantial fibre-based solutions portfolio and will use its materials science insights and customer relationships.
