Reusable packaging company ORBIS has completed the expansion of its manufacturing plant situated in Urbana, Ohio, US.

The expansion offers 30% additional room for the manufacture of ORBIS pallets and totes.

It also allows the company to enhance capacity, decrease lead times, and add more presses and tools.

The expansion of the Urbana factory, when combined with its advantageous position for freight optimisation, will enable the packaging company to provide better national customer service.

ORBIS president Norm Kukuk said: “A more sustainable supply chain starts with reuse. Our customers rely on us to help them move their goods in the supply chain more sustainably with reusable packaging.

“This expansion gives us the flexibility and capacity to enhance production of our packaging products. The people of our Urbana plant are dedicated, committed and focused on serving the customer. This expansion gives them the infrastructure to make that possible.”

The company assists businesses in making the switch from single-use to reusable packaging.

These reusable packaging materials are said to offer a long service life and multiple journeys across the supply chain.

The plant produces reusable packaging items that are used in a variety of industries, such as consumer packaged goods, food, beverage, and automotive.

ORBIS operations executive vice president Todd Mathes said: “ORBIS has been a part of Urbana for decades.

“This expansion, located at 200 Elm Street, is not only an investment in our current infrastructure but also an opportunity to harness emerging manufacturing technologies.”

ORBIS, a division of Menasha with its headquarters located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, operates eleven production facilities in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The recent Urbana expansion increases the company’s entire moulding capacity by 10% and improves energy efficiency.

To design and construct this expansion, the packaging firm collaborated with regional Ohio contractors.

Additionally, ORBIS leased 672,000ft2 of warehouse space in its new off-site warehouse in Urbana through a partnership with Damewood Enterprises and its affiliated company, Phoenix.
