Food packaging provider Smile Compostable Solutions has inked a material sales agreement with Pod Pack International for compostable, plant-based and carbon-neutral coffee pods.

Pod Pack International is a co-manufacturer of single-serve coffee and tea pods and cups.

Smile Compostable said that customers of Pod Pack now have more sustainable options due to its ability to produce commercial plant-based coffee pods that are compatible with Keurig brewers.

The deal shows Smile’s ability to provide turnkey solutions as the only biodegradable pod system that is completely certified.

Smile Beverage Werks doing business as Smile Compostable Solutions said that Pod Pack provides high-quality pods that are compatible with Keurig brewers.

The firm uses custom equipment from IMA Coffee to produce 420 coffee pods per minute using an in-line ultrasonic sealing method. The machine’s modular architecture also offers additional versatility.

Pod Pack supports firms that intend to lower their plastic and carbon footprints in the K-Cup industry using new sustainable materials.

Pod Pack CEO Marion Gray said: “The Team at Pod Pack is excited to partner with Smile to bring this innovative solution to the single-serve coffee and tea marketplace.
