The partnership has developed the new DLC keg to meet the stringent recycling requirements in Japan, as well as to be environmentally-friendly.

Petainer has collaborated with KHS Japan and Mitsubishi Chemical to provide one-way PET kegs to the Japanese beer market.

Mitsubishi’s DLC barrier technology has been aggregated with Petainer’s patented keg technology to produce the DLC Keg.

Mitsubishi provides its DLC products to the customers in the alcoholic drinks industry, including global brands such as Kirin.

The DLC technology serves as a clear barrier and helps retain CO2 r while blocking O2 entry.

With the support of Mitsubish, Petainer can offer the only PETkeg approved for recycling in Japan.

DLC keg follows the introduction of petainerKeg Hybrid, which is the first one-way PET keg to use a circular economy design, with focusing on recycling and reuse.

The PET keg is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional stainless-steel kegs, and can be used by drinks producers such as breweries and wineries.

Petainer noted that it is one of the largest users of PCR in single-use containers and offers refillable bottles to the beverage industry

The companies will showcase the DLC keg at this year’s Brau Beviale event in Nuremberg, Germany, which will take place from 13 to 15 November.

Petainer Group chief executive Hugh Ross said: “This is a unique partnership to develop a unique product – one which sets new standards for recyclability.  It underlines Petainer’s commitment to innovations, which continuously improve the environmental performance of our products.”

Petainer, which is a major plastic containers producer, operates five manufacturing sites across the globe.

The company serves a wide variety of markets in the beverage industry ranging from beer, cider, and wine to cold brew coffee, kombucha and others.

Mitsubishi Chemical operates two business domains, including performance products and industrial materials.

KHS supplies filling lines for glass and PET bottles, kegs, and cans for the beverage, food, and non-food industries.
