Amcor has inaugurated its innovation centre in Jiangyin, China to expedite the development of sustainable packaging solutions.

The new centre is intended to contribute to regional prosperity and innovation by bringing advanced packaging technology and more sustainable material science to the Asia Pacific.

At the core of all Amcor innovation centres are three major initiatives that promote collaboration on how to create, in real-time, the best solution that satisfies client requirements and helps facilitate growth.

The first initiative, the Catalyst programme is a flexible, collaborative, and creative co-innovation method to customise solutions for firms using advanced analytical and material science labs.

The Ideation and Prototyping Innovation Lab leverages customer insights and ideas to conduct rapid prototyping that helps reduce the time needed for product creation and review.

The Applications Lab provides a variety of production machinery testing capabilities to accurately identify possible concerns, assisting in the smoother, more efficient, and cost-effective development of new products.

Additionally, the Asia Pacific Innovation Centre will act as a hub for packaging industry cooperation, said Amcor.

It will also enable all partners from throughout the supply chain and region to share best practices on anything from in-depth research on new technologies and materials to the most recent packaging and composting knowledge.

Amcor Flexibles business in Asia Pacific president Mike Cash said: “We are thrilled to bring the best of Amcor’s unmatched innovation capabilities closer to our customers in the Asia Pacific.

“This world-class facility offers our customers in the region the opportunity to collaborate hand-in-hand with our experts to make innovative packaging ideas a reality.

“Asia Pacific is a key growth market for Amcor and our new innovation centre is just one of many important, customer-focused investments we are making in the region.”

Earlier this month, the company completed the acquisition of a premier flexible packaging plant located in the Czech Republic.
