Paperboard producer Nippon Dynawave Packaging, a unit of the Nippon Paper Group, has selected Finland-based Procemex’s 3D Crystal Web Inspection solution for its L3 product line.

The solution was deployed and put into operation in December 2022.

The Procemex 3D web inspection system is intended to keep the paper machine free from paper machine defects like indents, outdents, wrinkles, and other by-products of the paper-making process.

The delivery included hardware and software to support advanced wrinkle detection, as well as indent and outdent detection capabilities.

Nippon Dynawave finalised the system following on-machine trial to check the capabilities of the 3D web inspection technology.

Upon completion of the trial, the image quality and detection rate matched the expectation of the Nippon Dynawave Packaging team, which led to moving forward with complete defect detection capabilities.

The Procemex defect detection solution is connected with the company’s already-existing sheet break detection and web monitoring solutions.

According to the web monitoring firm, the L3 production line can now examine the root causes of defects, which would boost productivity and raise product quality.

Using the latest modern, integrated, and high-resolution Procemex web inspection and monitoring solution, Nippon Dynawave will now have new opportunities and technical solutions to increase the productivity of the production line.

The product quality of liquid packaging will also continue to meet the high standards set by end consumers, Procemex claimed.

Nippon Dynawave Packaging provides bleached paperboard used for cartons and cups for liquids such as milk, juice, coffee and sake.

Procemex is an integrated web monitoring and inspection solutions provider in the board, paper, pulp and printing industry. It develops smart camera-based solutions worldwide to maintain the firm’s product quality and minimise expensive production downtime.
