Nestlé UK said that its Nescafé coffee brand has launched an instant coffee refill pouch for the Nescafé Gold Blend and Nescafé Original products that could be recycled in stores itself.

The new refill pouch is expected to help save money for customers while reducing packaging.

According to the food and beverage company, the 150g refill pouch is lighter by 97% compared to the 200g glass coffee jar. Besides, the new pouch contains 60% less plastic, on average, than the lid of the glass jar.

Nestlé UK claimed that the packaging can be resealed to ensure freshness. Once the coffee content in the refill is over, customers can recycle the pack in over 5,000 stores in the UK.

The recycling service can be availed through kerbside collection in Ireland as well.

Apart from requiring less packaging, the new instant coffee refill pouch is lighter on the purse of customers, said Nestlé UK.

Furthermore, it offers more value for money when compared with the traditional coffee jar, thereby helping to stretch one’s budget an extra nudge, claimed the food and beverage company.

The new Nescafé Gold Blend refill pouch can be found at all major retailers, while the Nescafé Original refill pouch should be available at the end of this month, said the company.

Nestlé UK said that the launch forms part of the company’s continuing sustainability goals in packaging, which include cutting down on the consumption of virgin plastics by over 33% by 2025.

In addition to enhancing the sustainable credentials of its packaging, Nescafe said that it strives to increase the sustainability of coffee farming and ensure that all the coffee that is used in Nescafé products produced within the UK is 100% sourced in a responsible manner.

Nescafé soluble coffee marketing director Sophie Demoulin said: “We know that Nescafé lovers are getting more concerned about the sustainability credentials of the products they consume.

“We are therefore really proud to launch this new coffee pack that offers our fans the same great coffee and the iconic rich aroma that they love in less packaging whilst offering better value for money.”
