Packaging and paper firm Mondi has collaborated with German manufacturer VPF to develop a sustainable release liner range using recycled paper.

Mondi’s sustainable release liners range, which is claimed to be the first of its kind in the world, has been used by VPF for its labels.

With Mondi’s EverLiner M R, all the components of VPF’s label laminates have been produced using recycled materials.

VPF technical director Holger Steinbach said: “The functionality and performance of Mondi’s EverLiner with our adhesive labels range is comparable with a conventional liner, and the product helps us achieve our sustainability goals.”

In February this year, Mondi launched EverLiner M R, which is said to be the first machine-glazed release liner with 70% recycled content.

The company is offering EverLiner M R with FSC or PEFC-certified paper, which will help minimise CO2e footprint compared to standard liners.

EverLiner M R is a suitable release liner solution for labels, tapes, envelopes, and industrial applications.

Mondi stated that it used the customer-centric EcoSolutions approach to support VPF’s sustainability commitment.

Mondi business development manager Vincenzo Pierro said: “As a development partner of VPF, we worked closely with the team from the outset, offering a sustainable release liner alternative with no need to change the silicone system, and creating products that are effective, yet reduce the environmental impact.”

Earlier this month, Mondi launched a new sustainable and lightweight Advantage StretchWrap paper, which is suitable for wrapping pallets for transport.
