Packaging and paper firm Mondi has unveiled a new sustainable and lightweight Advantage StretchWrap paper, as part of its sustainable efforts.

The company has worked with the Italian machine manufacturer ACMI to develop the new comprehensive paper wrapping system for pallets.

Designed to use paper instead of plastic, the new patent-pending Advantage StretchWrap paper grade is said to be suitable for wrapping pallets for transport.

Advantage StretchWrap paper solution has been developed to replace multi-layer plastic, which is presently the industry standard for pallet wrapping.

It will help reduce the supply chain’s dependence on plastic and advance to a renewable and fully recyclable material.

The new paper solution has the potential to stretch and resist punctures, as well as offer better protection for goods during transit.

The Advantage StretchWrap paper, along with ACMI’s Rocket E-500 wrapping system, enables it to completely shift to a fully recyclable pallet wrapping solution.

Mondi stated that the acceleration tests to simulate transportation with ESTL equipment and real-life transportation trials confirmed that pallets wrapped with Advantage StretchWrap are safe.

Mondi speciality kraft paper sales director Paulus Goess said: “Mondi’s experience in high-stretch papers is in the DNA of this new paper solution. Mondi has been producing strong, stretchable paper for wrapping spring mattresses for over 20 years.

“Continuous developments for the paper parameters in strength, stretch, and reduced grammage made it possible to consider new applications.

“Now, after two years of research and development, we are proud to launch Advantage StretchWrap, our innovative paper-based solution for pallet wrapping.”

In February this year, Mondi launched a new paper-based release liner range called EverLiner, which can be used for labels, tapes, envelopes and industrial applications.
