Folding carton specialist Graphic Packaging International (GPI) has developed new packing solutions for Young’s Seafood, a UK-based producer and distributor of frozen, fresh, and chilled seafood.

The new range of British-inspired frozen fish packs have been designed to meet the requirement of Young’s Seafood for its seven frozen seafood products.

Young’s Seafood selected GPI to produce packaging solutions which would champion the firm’s identity while reflecting the nation’s goods excellence, GPI said.

GPI UK key account manager Andy Robson said: “GPI has worked with Young’s Seafood for a number of years, so we were excited to be asked to produce striking cartons to support its US growth. British seafood is renowned around the world, so it was important for the packs to capture its quality and unique character.

“From union flag graphics to red, white and blue designs, the cartons emphasize Young’s Seafood’s unparalleled legacy for UK fish retailing.”

The packaging features grease-resistant, fully recyclable mono-material skillets designed to provide product protection and preservation.

Following testing and trialing, the new packs are retailed through major US stores including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Peapod, Stop & Shop, Martin’s Foods and Giant Food.

Young’s Seafood international director Nick Munday said: “Perfecting the quintessentially British feel was crucial to the success of the US frozen seafood packs. There’s a great deal of choice available in the market, so our products needed a stand-out look to compete.

“GPI truly delivered, producing a high-performing range of packaging solutions at the superb standard we have come to expect from the company.”

In 2016, UK-based packaging manufacturer Linpac has created an innovative modified atmosphere pack (MAP) for Young’s Seafood’s new range of beer-battered cod fillets.

The new MAP features a specially designed newspaper print on its film lid and tray. The newspaper graphic is laminated with a transparent polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) sheet during the tray thermoforming process.
