G. Mondini’s distributor in North America, Harpak-ULMA has announced the commercial availability of a fully automatic, easy-to-use compact tray, Cigno.

Cigno is a new tray sealing technology that provides new choices for small- to medium-sized food producers for daily operations.

It is made to be easy to use, with streamlined installation, little staffing and infrastructure needs, and a gas flush design that does not require expensive vacuum pumps or compressed air.

The sealer is more approachable at any ability level because of the reduced complexity and intuitive functioning that offer higher simplicity of use while decreasing training needs.

With the help of Augmented Reality guided work instructions, Cigno’s smart, the connected design enables total beginners to develop into skilled operators in a matter of days.

According to Harpak-ULMA, format changes can be accommodated by the Cigno’s toolless changeover design without the use of trolleys or wrenches.

Its stainless steel frame and simple accessibility adhere to the strictest sanitary design guidelines, making wash-down procedures simple.

The Cigno offers 20–30 ppm cycle rates, simple toolless changeover, and production flexibility at a very affordable price and it is fit for testing and experimental projects as well as back-of-store operations.

It also offers automated product loading capabilities at a price point characteristic of semi-automatic machines by being conveyor-fed.

The technology makes the advanced MAP tray-sealing technology available in a very small footprint (1.6 metres), which is significantly smaller than the industry norm of 2.4 metres, said the company.

Harpak-ULMA said that the Cigno is suitable for a wide range of items in food packaging applications like the smaller meat, vegetable, and ready-meal shops as well as supermarket (back-of-store) operations.

Harpak-ULMA Mondini product line product manager Carlo Bergonzi said: “If you have space restrictions or limited technical support, the Cigno tray sealer should be on your radar.

“It’s an innovative machine design that can be easily integrated into existing facilities with MAP capabilities that apply across many food-industry segments.”
