The facilities are the first paper mills in North America to achieve this high hygiene level of food safety certification.

The BRC High Hygiene standard provides the most rigorous framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality, and the operational controls in the packaging and packaging materials industry.

This certification assures brand owners, food packagers, and manufacturers that Expera’s products can be used globally to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

The BRC Global Standard is part of an independently audited safety and quality certification program. Food industry experts from retailers, manufacturers, and service organizations developed this management system, and it is the first Packaging Standard in the world to be recognized by the GFSI committee.

The BRC’s ability to react to changing food safety concerns and meet food product safety requirements has resulted in BRC becoming one of the most popular GFSI standards. It is why more than 3,500 suppliers in more than 80 countries have chosen to be certificated to this packaging standard and it is recommended or accepted by specifiers worldwide.

Expera CEO Russ Wanke said: “The Expera team puts the highest focus on safety and quality.  Achieving BRC Certification is just another way for us to demonstrate this exceptional focus to our customers and the marketplace.”

Expera is a leading North American manufacturer of specialty paper products for the industrial and technical, food, and pressure-sensitive release liner segments.

Headquartered in Wisconsin, Expera employs approximately 1,800 people across four Wisconsin-based manufacturing facilities located in Rhinelander, Mosinee, Kaukauna, and De Pere.
