Injection moulding machine maker ENGEL has inaugurated a new packaging centre in Austria to help customers enhance the performance of production cells and maintain their competitiveness.

ENGEL said that at two locations, Schwertberg and St. Valentin, fit-for-purpose production cells for a wide range of packaging requirements are available.

The locations are equipped with all-electric e cap high-performance machines for producing caps and flip-top lids, e-speed machines for thin-walled containers and pails, and dual-speed dual-platen machines for big containers.

ENGEL’s technological centre also has an all-electric e-mac injection moulding machines for use in mid-performance packaging applications for the treatment of recycled material.

ENGEL business unit packaging vice president Christoph Lhota said: “Cycle time and energy efficiency are the most important key efficiency indicators in the packaging industry.

“And injection moulding solutions by ENGEL lead the field in both sectors.

“This is precisely what we demonstrate at the Packaging Centre. We invite our customers to put our injection moulding machines through their paces here.”

According to the firm, the new centre will focus on themes like energy efficiency, circular economy, and digitalisation.

All injection moulding machines will be integrated with smart support technologies from the ENGEL inject 4.0 programme.

The results from a recent set of tests have shown that the 4.0 software achieves notable quality improvements in high-performance applications with very short cycle times.

Lhota added: “The key to high energy efficiency is the individual plant components harmonising in the best possible way.

“In each case, we individually adapt the production cell to the requirements of the product to be manufactured.”

ENGEL said that customers can bring their own moulds and materials to the new packaging centre for a hands-on performance test, which includes cycle time and energy efficiency studies.

Furthermore, ENGEL has a large number of moulds from several product categories to test the machines.
