Packaging solutions provider DS Smith has forged a partnership with Sweden-based Jonsac to drive sustainable packaging in the e-commerce sector across Europe.

Jonsac produces bags from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wooden raw materials.

Under their supply agreement, the parties will source sustainable paper bags for e-commerce customers.

The partnership is intended to expedite the widespread switch from plastic to paper bags in Europe.

Customers in DS Smith’s European market will have access to these solutions.

DS Smith sales marketing and innovation director Marc Chiron said: “We are thrilled to be building on our existing relationship with Jonsac. Jonsac is a trusted supplier and the team there share our common plastic reduction goals.

“We have proven that we can work together in the Nordics, and we are looking forward to extending this offering across Europe. This activity is in line with our commitment to the circular economy.”

Both companies will offer a range of products to meet client needs. They will also focus on anticipating future packaging requirements for the e-commerce industry as per the market demands and changing consumer trends.

The bags developed through this collaboration will be 100% fiber-based and recyclable. DS Smith customers will get the benefit of ordering large volumes to support their e-commerce operations.

The latest agreement builds upon an existing collaboration under which Jonsac supplies paper bag packaging solutions to DS Smith customers in the Nordics area.

Jonsac CEO Torbjörn Rodhe said: “We are delighted to be collaborating with DS Smith for the benefit of the current and the next generation of e-commerce customers.

“They work with a wide range of customers across all sectors, and this collaboration is ideal for our product solutions and offering.”

Last month, DS Smith launched the DryPack solution for seafood processors in North America for seafood processors to help avoid plastic containers.
