US-based plastic packaging products maker Berry Global has teamed up with skincare company Koa to introduce Body Cleanser & Body Moisturizer bottles and closures made from 100% recycled plastic.

The new PET bottles, produced at Berry’s manufacturing facility in Winchester Virginia, are made from 100% PCR and silk-screen decoration to avoid the need to account for label materials in the recycling process.

The move by both companies is based on a shared vision and commitment to sustainability and creating a positive environmental impact.

Koa co-founder Hiro Shinn said: “We were determined to use 100% post-consumer material for our new body care line.

“Taking recycled odds and ends and turning them into functional, beautiful packaging felt like the natural next step in our journey to become a more responsible brand.”

Shinn further added, “Packaging is a big source of waste in the beauty industry. Most brands view packaging as a necessary evil from a sustainability point of view, but we think of it as an opportunity to innovate and lead.

“With each production run we do, we continue to push the envelope in using materials and processes that reduce carbon emissions and waste.”

“There are very few manufacturing partners out there that share our vision for how to engineer sustainable packaging while maintaining structural integrity and good design. Berry is at the top of that list.”

Berry Global commercial business director for the bottle manufacturing site David Long said: “We understand the need, as a plastics manufacturer, to be as responsible as we can when producing packaging.

“Anytime we can produce bottles using fully recycled plastic, we know we have found a true partner in our commitment to sustainability.”

Last week, Berry Global launched a new lightweight and more recyclable food closure.
