US-based hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging has snapped up Panvetri, a supplier of glass and metal packaging for the wine and olive oil industries, for an undisclosed sum.

Panvetri, based in  Modugno (Bari), Italy, caters to a broad range of wine estates, cooperative wineries, oil mills, and food manufacturers, primarily in the Apulia and Basilicata regions. It has been established in 1998.

The firm’s product portfolio includes beer, spirits, and sparkling wine bottles, olive oil cans, food jars, and closures in addition to wine and olive oil bottles.

Berlin Packaging believes that its local presence and sales team will help the Italian firm to expand its product offerings.

Berlin Packaging EMEA chief executive officer Paolo Recrosio said: “Italy is a key country for the wine and olive oil industries, and Panvetri enriches our presence and expands our coverage of southern Italy.”

Panvetri chief executive officer Alessandro Pantaleo said: “We are proud to join Berlin Packaging and bring our experience in southern Italy to the rest of the company.

“We are also keen to expand our product portfolio with Berlin Packaging’s unique shapes and sizes that will now be available to our customers.”

The latest deal represents Berlin Packaging’s 20th acquisition in EMEA, since 2016. It is also the company’s first acquisition in EMEA this year.

Berlin Packaging stated that all the employees and locations for the acquisition will be retained.

Berlin Packaging global CEO Bill Hayes said: “This acquisition is another testament to our commitment to growth in Europe.

“Panvetri strengthens our already robust presence in Italy and furthers our position as a leader in Italian food and beverage packaging.”

Last month, Berlin Packaging acquired Canada-based glass bottles provider United Bottles & Packaging for an undisclosed sum.
