Responsible packaging solutions provider Amcor has unveiled its curbside-recyclable high-barrier performance AmFiber performance paper packaging in the North American market.

AmFiber packaging, part of the company’s AmFiber portfolio, is a laminated paper that is recyclable in most paper recycling streams.

AmFiber is said to be an alternative to paper-based packaging. It uses advanced technology to produce the ideal barrier, shelf-life, and machine performance to fulfil the needs of brands and products.

The packaging solutions provider said that consumers look for paper packaging to give a more sustainable end-of-life as a result of the growing use of curbside paper collection and recycling. The paper-based products can satisfy customers’ expectations for a natural look and feel on the market.

Amcor Flexibles North America Research and Development vice president Brian Carvill said: “Brands now have more choices than ever when it comes to packaging their products in formats and materials that attract consumers and meet their sustainability goals, while still achieving the operational performance they require.

“AmFiber Performance Paper, part of the AmFiber portfolio, along with our dedicated research and development team, can make the conversion from plastic to paper effortless and advantageous.”

The performance paper is prequalified by How2Recycle as widely recyclable.

The certification means that the performance paper satisfies the repulpability standards for curbside recycling, enabling the brands to offer consumers more sustainable end-of-life outcomes for packaging.

The product line offered by Amcor includes options for candy, bars, cookies, cereals, dry drinks, and dry mixes. For cold-seal flow wrap and three-side seal sachets, the format applications are ideal, the packaging firm said.

AmFiber Performance Paper operates at machine speeds comparable to plastic-based packaging on already-in-use flexible packaging machinery.

Amcor’s expanded AmFiber portfolio of paper-based packaging also serves additional markets including dairy, produce, meat, poultry, seafood, ready meals, lawn & garden, and personal care.
