Austria-based ALPLA Group has entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement with plastic packaging firm HANA Innovation to produce recyclable, mono-material plastic pumps for soap, lotion, and shampoo dispensers.

HANA Innovation, which is based in South Korea, has developed a patented 100% polypropylene (PP) ECO Pump system.

ALPLA, a packaging and recycling company, said that the fully recyclable pump can be produced from post-consumer recycled (PCR) material and is designed with easy handling in mind.

It also has a spring execution for linear and even force over the entire pump stroke. Additionally, the pump will become customisable in the future.

Under the partnership, both firms intend to distribute sustainable pumps with the patented plastic spring technology and offer complete systems, including the bottle all over the world.

ALPLA is claimed to have global production capabilities in injection moulding, along with years of recycling expertise and an international network.

ALPLA injection moulding global business development director Michael Feltes said: “The potential for high-quality, recyclable pumps is enormous. As a system provider, we can offer the matching bottles at the same time.

“With this new partnership, we are combining our strengths as a globally operating company with the technological edge of HANA Innovation.”

ALPLA started the production of standard pumps for soap and shampoo dispensers in Hyderabad, India in 2020.

The JV is anticipated to help the Austrian packaging firm grow in the injection moulding sector.

Established in 1993, HANA Innovation has designed fully recyclable solutions made of plastic mono-material.

HANA Innovation chairman Sung Il Kang said: “The cooperation opens up opportunities for further global commercialisation of our products and accelerates the development of sustainable, future-proof solutions.”

The JV is conditional on legal and regulatory approval by the relevant competition bodies. The parties have not revealed the details of the partnership.

Recently, ALPLA and Thailand-based Global Chemical Public (GC) forged a partnership to produce new packaging using 100% post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PCR PET) plastic resins.
