United Caps, a Luxembourg-based manufacturer of caps and closures for the food and drink industry, has acquired the Spanish closure manufacturer Embalatap, for an undisclosed amount.

Embalatap is engaged in the production of caps and closures in the edible oils and vinegar sectors in Spain.

The firm, which employs 30 people, produces in excess of a half billion caps and closures annually.

The acquisition is a part of the United Caps’s plan to extend its product portfolio, especially closures for edible oils typically used in the Southern European market.

With the acquisition, United Caps said it will maintain the existing manufacturing location. Embalatap’s product range will be marketed under the United Caps name.

Embalatap managing director Oscar Rojo said: “As a market leader in caps and closures, United Caps brings us additional market reach, an expanded sales capability and a great support infrastructure, while our line of closures, especially for edible oils, extends United Caps’ portfolio in this lucrative market.”

Embalatap’s product line include mono piece and hinge models for PET 29/21 neck finish as well as the 32mm and 42mm closures for edible oils.

United Caps CEO Benoît Henckes said: “By incorporating Embalatap solutions into our portfolio, we give customers a one-stop shopping experience for a broader range of closure solutions.

“Since there is virtually no overlap in customers or product lines we don’t anticipate discontinuing products from either company in the near term.”

Last year, United Caps has acquired the plastic closures division of Closures4you. The acquired assets include 28mm caps for re-usable glass bottles as well as for disposable PET bottles.

United Caps is engaged in production of custom-designed caps and closure solutions for the food and drink industry.

With around 500 employees, United Caps has manufacturing facilities in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg and Spain.
