Designed for use in multiple applications, Colorite has added 12 new grades to its currently-available 28 TPE formulations.

The company is providing TPE compounds in four series, including 1,000 extrusion grades for IV therapy with advanced bonding and kink resistance.

Colorite is offering 2,000 grades for injection molding and extrusion grades targeting cost-driven IV therapy solutions, while 3,000 grades for injection molding and extrusion grades for general purpose healthcare, foodservice, caps, liners, gaskets/seals, syringe stoppers, profiles.

The 4,000 injection molded grades are suitable for high-clarity applications such as drip chambers.

The compounds are formulated with silicone, latex, phthalate, halogen and PVC-free using FDA-compliant raw materials to meet USP Class VI and ISO 10993 standards.

Colorite business development director Heath Schmid said: “Changes in regulations and market conditions are prompting medical device manufacturers to look for solutions via other materials.

“The Cellene TPE compound line is ideal for medical device manufacturers and others looking for alternatives to PVC, phthalate-plasticized compounds and various rubber materials.

“The line expansion will assist in reducing the development cycle and provide manufacturers with greater options to obtain the durometer rating required for their applications.”

In October this year, Tekni-Plex’s other business unit Tekni-Films launched super barrier coated (SBC) films for pharma and other healthcare applications. The new SBC 240 film serves as an alternative to 4 and 6-mil PCTFE laminations for blister applications.

Colorite, which is a custom compounder specializing in medical-grade formulations, offers clear polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds for medical devices.

The compounds are developed to be used in extrusion, injection molding, blow molding and film applications. They are provided with better heat stability and processability capabilities for use in different medical device applications.

Tekni-Plex is engaged in the development and manufacturing of packaging materials, medical compounds and precision-crafted medical tubing solutions for medical, pharmaceutical, personal care, household and industrial, and food and beverage industries.
