Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film manufacturer Taghleef announced that it has completed the transaction to acquire Biofilm, a Latin America-based manufacturer of BOPP films for flexible packaging, labels and industrial applications.

Biofilm, which was established in 1988 in Cartagena, Colombia, has been focusing on international sales to expand its business.

In 2004, the company has opened its second manufacturing facility in Mexico featuring multi-layer co-extrusion technology to manufacture films with unique performance capabilities.

Biofilm’s innovative technological platforms include clear barrier, ultra-high barrier and metallized films.

Taghleef claims that, with eight metallizing chambers at production facilities, Biofilm is the largest supplier of metallized BOPP films in Latin America, and one of the largest suppliers of packaging grade BOPP films for the entire continent.

The acquisition strengthens Taghleef’s position as a supplier of BOPP films in Latin America and throughout the world with an increased annual production capacity to more than 500,000 tons.

The company is adding Cartagena, Colombia and Altamira, Mexico sites to the existing manufacturing sites in the US, Canada, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Egypt, U.A.E., Oman and Australia.
