Summit Packaging Solutions has inaugurated its new $18.3m facility in unincorporated Boone County in the US state of Kentucky.

The new 276,000ft² Operations Center of Excellence allows the company to better serve the Midwest market with the support of new and existing customers in the region.

According to the firm, the project will create 185 contracted positions and 69 direct full-time jobs which include assembly and production, maintenance, management, and supervisor roles.

The project was chosen for Boone County due to its enormous transit system, access to trained labour, and solid community partnerships, according to company executives.

Summit Packaging CEO Adam Walker said: “We are thankful for the warm welcome to Boone County. We are pleased to be part of Kentucky’s expansive manufacturing presence.

“The Summit Operations Center of Excellence complements our existing manufacturing footprint and is a benchmark for advancing our core principles of eliminating waste, improving product quality, driving operational efficiency and reducing cost and time.

“Our goal is to empower an inclusive and engaged community culture, and proudly bring manufacturing jobs to the region through our partnership with Northern Kentucky Tri-ED and other city, county and community entities.”

Founded in 1984, Summit was acquired by a holding company established by Walker in 2014.

The firm offers customisation, assembly of full pallet displays, PDQs, permanent and temporary displays, shrink-wrapping and banding, print-registered bundle wrapping and distribution, and transportation.

The company now has operating assembly operations in Georgia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with corporate offices in Georgia and Ohio.

Summit’s new facility is another addition to Kentucky’s substantial industrial sector, which has close to 5,000 facilities and 250,000 workers state-wide.

Additionally, the workforce service providers in Kentucky can offer Summit with resources.

These include no-cost hiring and job placement services, budget-friendly customised training, and financial incentives for job training, said the company.
