Canadian commercial printing company Solisco has installed a Speedmaster CX 104-6+L press from Germany-based HEIDELBERG at its Scott headquarters.

The print and packaging firm HEIDELBERG has equipped Speedmaster CX 104-6+L with CutStar inline sheeter and Prinect Inpress Control 3.

The installation of the new machine will help in achieving faster speeds and quicker makereadies and meet the growing demand for shorter-run books, journals, magazines, and catalogues.

HEIDELBERG said that Solisco’s new press is equipped with its autonomous Push-to-Stop technology, AutoPlate Pro, and a completely new operating philosophy, the HEIDELBERG User Experience (UX).

HEIDELBERG UX, leveraging the patented Intellistart 3 and other assistive technologies, ensures short makeready times and the best possible support for press operators throughout the press run.

Solisco anticipates that some of the tasks that were previously printed on its web presses will now be produced offset.

The company expects that the installation of the new device will also enhance its overall capacity and throughput while generating higher-quality products for its customers.

The Speedmaster CX 104, which runs at 16,500 sheets per hour, will allow the printing firm to diversify into different markets.

Solisco manufacturing director Alex Jacques said: “We needed to run faster. We also felt our technology was not up to par to where we wanted to be.

“We felt the CX 104 really fit in with our current business but also allowed us some flexibility for the future.”

The Prinect Inpress Control 3 is said to be an inline spectrophotometer that calculates and controls colour and registers on the fly at any speed. It can deliver the first measurable result in less than 60 sheets.

CutStar enables the company to print directly from a roll and trim sheets to certain sizes before entering the feeder. It will help the commercial printer to achieve greater efficiency.

Jacques added: “As a web printer, we’re used to this type of printing, and we think it’s going to bring us a lot of versatility compared to other sheetfed printers who don’t use this technology.”
