SIG Comblicoc has announced the introduction of new SIGNATURE EVO aluminium-free full barrier packaging materials for aseptic carton packs.
The new materials expands its SIGNATURE aluminium-free packaging material portfolio.
SIG is already offering lower-carbon aluminium-free packaging materials for plain white milk.
The new SIGNATURE EVO materials are developed for use with both oxygen-insensitive products such as plain white UHT milk and oxygen-sensitive products such as fruit juices, nectars, flavoured milk or plant-based beverages.

SIG stated that its combibloc ECOPLUS enabled to reduce the carbon footprint of its standard packaging material by 27% when introduced in 2010 and SIGNATURE 100 helped to minimise this further in 2017.
SIGNATURE EVO packaging materials are also anticipated to support in the similar carbon footprint reduction as combibloc ECOPLUS. It is to be confirmed through an independent and critically-reviewed life-cycle assessment.
The new materials allow full recycling in existing recycling streams, similar to all SIG packs.
SIGNATURE EVO packaging materials holds the capacity to protect oxygen-sensitive products over long periods of time without the requirement for refrigeration compared to standard aseptic cartons with an aluminium foil barrier layer, the company said.
Initially, the company will launch SIGNATURE EVO in the combiblocMini portion-sized format before expanding to other formats.
Later, SIG is also planning to offer the new solution in more options such as SIGNATURE EVO 100, the full barrier solution for aseptic carton packs linked to 100% renewable forest-based materials.
